HELLO 2020!! The year has begun and that means that Pantone has selected the color of the year. Have you heard? Have you seen it? CLASSIC BLUE. The color officials at Pantone say that they chose this color for the start of the new decade because of it’s “calmness, confidence, and connection” and because it “highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” Wow! I want to be a part of that era.

The history of blue as a color began when the Catholic Church made an important move in the year 431 AD. At this time, the Church decided to color-code the saints, and Mary was given a blue robe. Over time, the shade of blue that Mary wore became what is now known as “navy blue.” Because Mary stood for innocence and trustworthiness, the color blue was seen in a positive light. This also builds upon the steadiness of sea and sky and as an allusion to heaven and peace. Later, this same navy blue was adopted by militaries and police to convey a similar essence of trust.
