Our Commitment Against Modern Day Slavery

How many times do you think we’ve all been complacent in supporting businesses that use human labor trafficking to fulfill our orders? How many times do you think the media and marketing of our favorite businesses make it easy for us to ignore the factory workers who created the items we’re purchasing? At Lambert Home, we’re committed to only working with vendors with clear, anti-slavery practices so that you can be sure that your gorgeous home was not created at someone else’s expense.

Modern Day Slavery

What’s true is that human trafficking is at an all-time high, and there are likely more people enslaved today than ever before, according to A21. Whether it be the introduction of fast fashion, affordable home decor, or simply a lack of awareness, our habits and society have made it easy to ignore the millions of people all over the world that are suffering in factories, in the fields, and at work for the items we “absolutely HAVE to have.” That being said, I wanted to bring you in on what we, at Lambert Home, do to ensure that we are not contributing to this complacency.

Two Questions

You may be aware of different interior design/home markets that pop up all over the United States. Being in Southlake, we regularly attend the Dallas Market, right in our backyard! When we go to Market, we have the opportunity to shop new home decor and appliances for our store and for your homes. To ensure I am never inadvertently employing slave-labor, I ask two important questions:

  1. Where are these items manufactured?

It may surprise you that many storefronts will proudly share that their items ship from California. However, they may not be as transparent about the products being manufactured outside of the country.

  2. WHO is going to the factories and confirming safe and healthy working conditions, and confirming all workers are not being trafficked?

This question is extremely important, because most employees are unaware of this part of the process because their bosses, and their bosses’ bosses, are withholding the truth from them. A company with products Lambert Home wants to use will be proud to inform all of its employees that they are against trafficking and take the necessary steps to avoid it.

There have been several times when employees could not answer one, or both, of these questions and we’ve immediately said “thank you for your time,” and left! We are not playing around, people!

At Lambert Home, we deeply care about you as an individual, and also about all of the individuals that take part in the process of making your home beautiful! When you work with us, and buy from us, you can be confident that all of your products were ethically sourced - even in our custom furniture lines!
