Top 6 Home Lighting Trends
Our expert interior designers have returned from the Dallas Market Center with some really exciting home lighting trends to keep our eyes out for! Before we get into the specifics of each trend, let’s take a second to remember a couple of things: home lighting is an investment and home lighting is personal.
Home Lighting is an Investment
So, what do we mean when we say home lighting is an investment? Isn’t everything you put in your home technically an investment? In short, yes! The difference is that lighting, especially larger statement pieces, should be treated like a long-term investment.
When shopping for lighting for your home, you may find yourself in the Home Depot aisle feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options. That’s even before you go online and begin the endless doom scroll for the perfect fixture, lamps, and sconces that somehow need to look like they all belong in the same home!
So then, factor in the cost of all of these different pieces and it can be easy to want to throw in the towel, go with a cost-effective option from Amazon that you don’t love. Then, maybe a few months later you’ll start the process all over again.
Trust us - THIS IS NOT THE MOVE! Take the time to find the right lighting pieces for your home and invest in them. They certainly don’t have to break the bank, but let’s make sure they will last for a long time - in both durability and style!
Lighting in Your Home is Personal
Okay, duh! We can all agree that you should absolutely love the lighting in your home. But… how??? How do you select lighting that perfectly fits your design style and coordinates with your other decor?
Well… have you heard of our Interior Design Style Toolkits, yet? (:
In each Interior Design Style Toolkit, Sarah put together a description of lighting needs based on the specific style. This includes fixture shapes, materials, and more. (Spoiler alert: lighting isn’t the only thing she did this for!) So, maybe your first step to lighting you love is doing a little targeted research and purchasing your Interior Design Style Toolkit!
Once you’ve done that, come back and we can talk lighting trends! By then, you’ll know exactly which trends fit within your style and you’ll be totally prepared to shop!
2025 Lighting Trends for the Home
1. Traditional Pleated Shades
The reintroduction of traditional pleated shades in home lighting makes a lot of sense with the rising popularity of the New Traditional design style. The internet is teeming with “Grandmillennial” design that really marries classic and modern styles!
These lights have a sense of nostalgia that remind us of our mother’s (or maybe grandmother’s) pleated bedside table lamps. Pleats add a level of femininity without being too frilly! They strike the perfect balance between elegant and stuffy. Does this sound like you?
Add in a little bit of color and pattern, and these pieces can speak to a wide variety of styles!
2. Travertine & Marble
Take a moment to picture a beautiful travertine lamp with a simple shade. Are you picturing it in monochromatic room on a natural wood surface? Travertine’s simple and elegant finish makes it perfect for minimalists and modernists. Its understated and unassuming nature adds just the right amount of texture and visual interest to a more simple space!
Marble fixtures are typically going to belong in more glamorous, elevated rooms. Many people love a classic white marble fixture with gold/brass accents, but we’re also starting to see some gorgeous shades of brown and black pieces come to the forefront of design trends!
3. Reeded Glass
Typically used as a cabinet inset or privacy glass, we’re excited to see some creativity come forward with reeded glass light fixtures! One big perk of this style of lighting is that bulbs are less visible without blocking the light like a typical lamp shade. Instead, the grooves in the glass cause a really soft lighting effect, while still providing visual interest when the lights are off. So, it’s a win, win, win!
4. Woven & Wrapped Shades
Calling all Nancy Meyers-types! This trend is for you.
We’re particularly excited to see woven shades having their moment in the spotlight! The woven style is classic, timeless, and perfectly reminiscent of the coast. It’s also a great way to add texture to a space without adding in a lot of color or pattern.
Not going for a coastal look? That’s totally fine! Woven and wrapped shades can be incorporated as an accent in many different kinds of spaces. Just make sure some other elements of the specific fixture tie in with the design aesthetic you’re going for!
5. Sconces & Picture Lights
Sconces and picture lights are a great way to incorporate multi-level lighting. You’ve probably seen all over TikTok and Instagram Reels that multi-level lighting is a MUST! It adds depth and coziness to a room that overhead lighting just can’t. Enter: sconces and picture lights.
These two really classic accent lighting options tend to speak more to our nostalgic interior design styles, but the shapes and materials can create an option for any style!
6. Vine Shapes
But, really, who said lighting had to be classic? We’re seeing unique vine and floral shapes that are beginning to trend in the lighting industry! And guess what… these are not just being designed for the hyper-artistic type! We’re seeing some exciting petal-inspired shades, fleur-de-lis inspired chandeliers, and so much more. There truly may be something for everyone!
